Obehi Janice


Obehi Janice is a Nigerian-American performer/writer with two first names. Her original work explores the power of voice in identity/politics, cultural exchange, and testimony. A 2009 graduate from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, she has also trained in classical acting at Shakespeare & Company. She is the creator, performer, and writer of two one-woman shows: suddenly BLACK, at Georgetown and FUFU & OREOS. An excerpt from FUFU & OREOS is published in the anthology Young Angel Midnight: An Anthology of Emerging Artists (Bootstrap Press).

An actress, singer, dancer, and director in the Boston-area, her credits include work with Company One, New Exhibition Room, Actors' Shakespeare Project, Underground Railway Theater, Huntington Theater Company, and Zeitgeist Stage. She has been nominated for a 2011 IRNE Award for Best Supporting Actress (My Wonderful Day, Zeitgeist Stage Company). Upcoming productions include Blood Rose Rising (Fall 2012) and Vinegar Tom (Spring 2013). She is currently directing Asking For More: Dickens in Nigeria (October 2012). Obehi is also a public speaker and voice-over actor. She makes her video game debut this Fall as the voice of "LIMA" in Dance Central 3 (KINECT/XBOX).
