“Message From a Sidewalk” is a Youth Artist Project led by Artist-in-Residence Ponnapa Prakkamakulexploring street art, public art, social equity, play, and democracy. Together, Youth Artists will design and create a participatory hopscotch game in public space that expresses our ideas of democracy.
During this 10-week course, Youth Artists will learn how street artists use art as a tool to raise awareness, create an inclusive space for everyone, and provide a safe platform for expression to happen. Through workshops, open-ended discussions, and fieldwork, we will investigate the boundaries of freedom of expression in public space. Youth Artists will gather research information of the site, learn to develop a conceptual design, and practice participatory design that engages the community and creates awareness on social equity.
