Ana Vargas is an architect and photographer from Caracas, Venezuela. She is currently a graduate student at MIT in the Master of Science in Architecture and Urbanism program. During the spring semester she will conduct the workshop "Tracing Public Space" with Urbano's Young Curators. The workshop is based on a project of Professor Antoni Muntadas' Studio Seminar on Public Space and Public Art at MIT. Urbano students will search for public spaces within Jamaica Plain to trace possible walking trails that give meaning to the neighborhood's cultural identity. After exploring, photographing, and mapping meaningful public spaces in JP, the Young Curators will use collected materials as a tool to better understand the public realm and urban design values. Finally, we will trace the optimum paths between selected public spaces to create possible walking trails.
