Alison's work explores the interplay of performance and digital media through motion- and touch-activated pieces modeled on musical instruments. Her projects invite play, creation, and audience participation, incorporating sound and movement through site-specific installations and interactive digital objects.
Alison has shown work at the 2009 and 2011 Boston CyberArts Festivals, MassArt's Bakalar and Doran Galleries, and at other venues around Boston and beyond. In 2012 Alison installed her first solo show, Listen Close, at the Bromfield Gallery after winning the Bromfield's SOLO 2012 competition. In 2012-2013 Alison's video piece You Will Be Safe (developed in collaboration with KAIROS Dance Theater) was displayed as part of Boston Cyberarts' and the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center's Art on the Marquee exhibition series.
In addition to her teaching work at Urbano, Alison is an adjunct professor of Graphic Design at MassArt and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Her writing has appeared in the Teaching Artists' Journal and the Youth Media Reporter, as well as The Experience of Dynamic Media, the Dynamic Media Institute's 10th anniversary publication.
Alison holds an MFA from the Dynamic Media Institute at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design ('11), a BA from Brown University ('00), and a Diploma ('06) and Post-Baccalaureate Certificate ('04) in design and studio art from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
