If you are a High School Student

What exactly is the Artists’ Projects program?
The youth artists’ program is a collaborative, place-based class in contemporary art practices in which youth learn artistic skills and work with a professional artist to create and develop a social intervention project.

How does it work?
Urbano works around annual themes. This year, our theme is The Commons | The Other. Artists present their proposal and are selected to teach our classes, which will be announced to preselected by youth applicants.

Who can apply to the Artists’ Projects?
Youth ages 14-21 who attend Boston-area public high schools.

If I have no prior experience in art-making, but I am interested in exploring and learning about arts, can I still apply?
Yes. All of the skills you will need to complete each project will be incorporated into the classes. If you do have prior experience in art-making you are still very much encouraged to apply.

How much does it cost to participate?
Your participation is absolutely free! Additionally, you will be paid a stipend at the end of the term if you are selected to participate in one of our classes.

How long do the Artists’ Projects programs last? And what are the hours for each class?
In the fall and the spring, classes meet twice a week for twelve weeks, from 3:30-6:30pm. In the summer, classes meet twice a week for six weeks, from 2-6pm.

If I am between 14-21 years old but I have already finished high school, can I still apply?
Yes! You can still apply for our programs as long as you have not yet started college.

I see there are different class options for each term, is it possible to take more than one class each term?
Yes! Many students participate in more than one class each term.

Do I have to commit to attending all class sessions?
Yes, but if you must miss a class you may speak with the Arts Education Programs Manager in advance to receive permission.
